First Month Blogging

6 06 2006

June 7th marks my first month blogging. It’s been such an interesting month and I thought a good point to share some of the things I’ve learnt on my journey so far.

1. Blogging takes effort and focus.

Like It Is – commentary from my perspective but it still requires effort and focus to develop an idea into a well written piece. The effort is worth it when your readers say things like “I know what you mean” or “I’ve been there” or “here’s my story”. And, since I’m just starting out it’s great – because I can experiment with what works. Read the rest of this entry »

Carve Out Your Own Niche

Living in a way that works and that feels right to me is a no-brainer. I think that most would agree that people are happier if they live the life they want to live the way they want to live it. I am more and more aware however that there is often a subtle (and not so subtle) pressure to conform to the status quo. People who you least expect and those you expect to be on your side can bring the most pressure.

Nowhere is this more apparent than when, as I have, a women makes a deliberate decision not to have children. I have been fortunate because I successfully absent myself from situations where I know I am likely to be criticised for my life or lifestyle choices, and have no problem standing up for myself if they are. The question is, why should I have to “stand up” for myself? Why should anyone have to defend their choices? Read the rest of this entry »

Images of Toronto

CN Tower, originally uploaded by TownieBrit.

The CN Tower is the tallest free-standing structure on land in the world. When I first came to Toronto I was quite awed seeing it so close.
Every time I look at this photo I am amazed. I don't know which is more awesome - the clear September night sky or the majestic CN Tower. How'd I get this photo? From our condo roof!

Evening On The Beach

Evening On The Beach

This is one of my favourite photos.
Taken one evening when we were on our honeymoon on the Mayan Riviera, Mexico, it always brings back the feelings of peace and serenity of walking along a deserted beach at sunset.

On the Mayan Riviera

I had always wanted to just lie on a beach, enjoying the sun sand and sea, sipping long cool, exotic drinks which I didn’t have to get myself. Most of my holidays have always been activity oriented, doing something everyday. So, for our honeymoon we decided to do just what I’d always wanted to do.  Our honeymoon destination was El Dorado Royale, a beautiful all-inclusive resort on the Mayan Riviera.  When we arrived we were served champagne in the cool marble lobby. And then we were taken by golf cart to our casita. From the entrance, we were totally unprepared for how beautiful the resort was. It was quite something.

Over the next week we relaxed, swam and read and did everything we wanted to.. which was basically not a lot other than soak up the sun and relax. I especially loved walking along the beach in the evening – it was always cooler then and we could enjoy the ocean breezes. Our honeymoon photos bring back great memories of a wonderful seven days in a beautiful place and we share them on My Flickr Photos.
