Britgirl’s Officially Moved! Welcome to My New Home!

by Britgirl on November 6, 2006

Well, I made the announcement. Welcome everyone to my new home!

I’ve officially moved. I think things are in enough order that at least readers can read and reply to comments and still browse previous articles. If I wait until it’s perfect I’ll be tweaking forever. And I’m always going to be tweaking here and there and making changes so might as well throw my doors open right now!

Over the next few weeks I’ll be setting up things they way I want them. There are lots of goodies available now that I can literally do what I like on my blog. So, over time I’m hoping to really extend my blogging experience for myself and my visitors. One of the things I really want to have on Like It Is is an application that allows you to show what music you’ve listened to or have recently listened to. I’ve seen one that I’m going to check out in a bit more detail.

Also will be getting my feeds and subscribe tools set up, tidying up my sidebar and experimenting with different ordering of stuff. And of course posting!

That’s really what blogging’s all about after all.

Congratulations on your move. I myself can attest to how annoying moving from wordpress.com to wordpress.org is. *sighs* You seem to have done a much better job than I did, though. :)

Hi Joy! Thanks for visiting. All things considering it went quite well. I took my time though and did it over a few weeks. Have to say it was a little hair raising reading some of the experiences of others, half of which I had no clue about, but happily I had very few… let’s hope that continues – or at least that I’m able to work out what to do :-) )

Like I said in the last post, good move! Your new pad looks great! Toward the end of last April, I got fed up with Blogger.com and decided to go WordPress all the way. After making the switch, I never looked back again! So much easier to post, no annoying maintenance issues that Blogger had, and great customizing abilities.

I don’t know what other bloggers go through with using TypePad, Livejournal or any of the other services. However, if anyone asks me what platform to blog from, I tell ‘em to steer clear of Blogger.

I still have yet to move my bird club’s blog from there. And I’m the site administrator!

Cheers!

@Chris, thanks again. I’ve heard the horror stories about Bloggger. I had some experience as a contributor to a blog and I can’t count the number of times it screwed up my post or was down. And on wp.com, there are lots of ex-bloggerites too – the blogging-wounded.

When I was reviewing which platform to use 6 months ago I considered going with the wp full install, but thought it seemed too complicated for a newbie to blogging :) and one who would never call herself a code genius by any stretch of the imagination. 7 months later I felt was ready for the challenge.. I would have stayed with wp.com (it’s nice having everything done for you and all you do is add content), but the limitations of what you can do on your own blog were beginning to grate so I knew it was time to move. I’m really impressed with the hosted version of word press – it’s like a completely different world. More so when I see the sites that are using it.
And have to say again, your blog is great – I’ll be checking out that iLike at some point.
