What about "Black Christmas"? Shot in and around the UofT campus here in Toronto in 1974, it's a film so bad it's good - Karen Black, several SCTV alumni, buckets of fake blood - what's not to love? They even remade this schlockfest this year, with some cameos from the original cast. The director of the original is a regular at my favorite watering hole here in Toronto -- http://www.barvolo.com --

@Mosh - is that the track that Argyle is playing in the limo?
Bonds... funny I never really associated Bonds with Christmas, I suppose because they aren't really what I would call "Christmassy" themewise, but now you mention it I remember they DO show them every Christmas in England and they are a tradition. We've just recently watched Star Wars Episodes V V VI (Special Editions), Love Actually, Bridget Jones Diary and Die Hard (last night)

And now I have something to look forward to for afterwards Christmas... if I can contain myself. Because yesterday we acquired 24 Season 5. Heh!. Move over John, Jack Bauer's in the house! lol!

Die Hards - definitely! Christmas In Hollis is such cool track from 80s hip-hop.

No Bonds? They're a xmas tradition in the UK.

I watch Star Wars and Wizard of Oz. I know... they aren't xmas themed but they are family to me.

@Sire - nope, we're not bothering working out how long it will take us to watch them. But we will have watched them all by the end of Christmas Day!

@Carol, yes but is it a Christmas movie ? ;-)

That is some list. Have you worked out how long it will take you to watch the whole lot. Certainly it's not hoing to be a Movie Marathon? I especially like Trading Places.

@Jessica - thanks, one to bear in mind for watching. White Christmas isn't one of those we own but I did see it years ago.
@Rhea - thanks and yes, the interwoven stories were, I thought what saved the film...the only thing I would say is that at one point (particularly when I first saw the film) they got a little confusing. They were easier to follow when I watched it the second time :)
@Kath - thanks - I know what you mean. I remember the first time I watched this film, I could not see why it was called a Christmas classic, because I found it so depressing. So many times I thought George deserved more of a break. But the second and third time I watched it, while I think it is still rather depressing, for a variety of reasons I found I enjoyed it a lot more. And it did have a nice ending, thank goodness.

@Joy - Haven't watched Charlie Brown's Christmas in a long, long time and not since I came to Canada. My husband says though that he used to watch it, but stopped because he found it really depressing. We would probably watch the Grinch t.v. Special though :)

@All - thanks for sharing your own Christmas film picks too!

Actually, I didn't think I'd enjoy Elf either, but I was pleasantly surprised. I don't watch too many Christmas movies except for It's a Wonderful Life because my mom loves it. We sometimes watch The Santa Clause, too.

But I prefer the television specials, like A Charlie Brown Christmas. :)

Oh yes ... some good movies on the list. Love Actually is a bit hammy in places but I love it for the interwoven stories. And the bit about Heathrow airport brings tears to my eyes every time.

One of my Christmas faves is Miracle on 34th Street with Richard Attenborough.

Wow! I am in agreement with you on all but one of your primary picks. I have always hated 'It's A Wonderful Life' and thought it too depressing. Personally, I would have liked to see George get some one-on-one time for himself and fly off to a tropical island.

But that's just me :-)

Great list, thanks for sharing!
