Perhaps because I’d blogged about Valentine’s day I was more acutely aware of all the Valentine’s day trappings and interesting little things people were doing… So I thought I share what I noticed today going to and from work. Had to grin to myself.
-
- The Hallmark card shops were packed… mostly with guys. I have never seen so many guys in a card shop before! Looks like they’d nipped in to get that card for The One at the last minute. Just like Christmas… (heh)
- All the
niceclassy cards went very quickly. Spotted quite a few empty display holes and lots of leftover cards - Even the
crappiestsimplest cards were bloody expensive! - I happened to spot the prices of a bunch of flowers in one of the flower shops near where I work. Nearly $CDN40.00 for a smallish bunch!? So.. for an acceptable bunch we’re looking at say $CDN80 and up. But the alternative? Turn up with no flowers? On Valentine’s Day? Not worth the risk
- There was a queue (line) in the flower shop. Mostly guys.
- Flower wrapping services were available. Mostly guys in these lines.
- I did get wished Happy Valentine’s day – to which I replied “same to you.” It hadn’t occurred to me to say it first, because although I’m reminded of it, I just never remember it! Except when I blog

I like how almost every number is followed with “mostly guys.”
Happy V-Day!
The way the prices of flowers go up around this day is very funny indeed.It’s advised that you book your flowers a week prior to V-Day because if you go around doing it at the last moment,you might as well have to spend like a month’s salary at that dumb bouquet of red roses.
I sometimes feel I should buy some land,make a gift shop and open it only on Valentines Day and Christmas,the money they earn on these two days could easily help them survive for like six months or something.All shops aren’t that lucky though because some so called “good people” in our country like to barge into them and smash the glasses and all because they think V-day is obscene and they would do anything or everything to stop any hooliganism or “public” display of affection.These are probably the people who didn’t have anyone to wish them on this day and won’t let others enjoy the day either,it’s all so lame.
Anyway,you’ve got a very nice blog.
@Joy – Thanks!
What part of the world do you live in? I was reading an artivle the other day about how India was trying to ban Valentine day and any public displays of affection. You certainly have a point about the flower shop though
@Ish – thanks for dropping by – and for your compliment
You got me,I live in India only and yea,they’ll probably be able to get the ban initiated in some years.Having said that though,V-Day went rather peacefully this time but I think that was because all the people who were supposed to create the ruckus are already in jail for trying to become ‘good social’ citizens and totally destroying a ‘makeshift’ Indian casino and beating up the people.
