She’s 13 - And She’s The New World Text Messaging Champ
23 04 2007I know some pretty fast text messaging people but this girl is faster than all of them put together.
K, so i ws gng 2wrt the hdln as txt bt thgt it mgt nt b 2 ez 2 rd. I like texting, but I have to say I dislike it when people use the language of texting in general email or on blogs. Text is text, everything else should be properly written English. No excuses.
But hats off to Morgan Pozgar who certainly deserves the title, having beating 250 competitors from across America. But does she ever find time for… other things? Like school? She trained by sending an average of 8,000 text messages a month to her friends – that’s about 260 a day. Still, she beat a 23 year old engineer and I say she deserves every bit of her $25,000 prize money.
“Morgan Pozgar, 13, clinched the title with a quickfire error-free rendition of “supercalifragilisticexpialidoucious! Even though the sound of it is something quite atrocious. If you say it loud enough you’ll always sound precocious.”
I doubt I could have sent that error free normal writing, let alone as a text message. Morgan says she’s going to spend her prize money shopping in Manhattan.
U go grl!

I’m glad to hear she does make time for the important things. ;-).
Honestly…gotta say it makes me ill on so many different levels.
Tri - Why? you mean the $25,000? Or the fact that she can text at such speed.
To type that sentence she has must be incredibly fast.
Oh my, just let me loose in Manahattan with $25,000 big ones… or even half that. The things I could do!
Christine - Yes
But she couldn’t possibly as big a shoeaholic as we are now could she? Gaaah! I don’t want to think of it…
Morgan is an honor student. She plays softball, basketball & is a cheerleader. She also participates in Chorus and Odyssey of the Mind. She goes to church every Sunday and still has time for friends and family. So let’s grow up and not judge a 13 year old girl. She will be spending a small portion of her money on shopping and the rest will be going to her college education.
And hello to you too! I don’t anyone here is judging her!!? Lighten up!
I wrote about her because I think what she’s done is pretty amazing… which if you stop to actually read the post you’ll see. And the report I linked to, which is a short one, makes no mention of her other pursuits, which perhaps it should have done. It does say she’ll be shopping in Manhattan, which I for one think is great. I see no problem with that.
You are speaking for yourself when you say you need to grow up… it really isn’t done to simply barge in and cast aspersions. Aside from that, thanks for the additional info on Morgan..
I was going to say who needs a college education if one has $25K to spend in Manhattan, but now I’d worry my sense of humour doesn’t translate well online :). (And it’s never too early to develop an interest in shoes.)
Sorry Britgirl, it was meant for Triana who’s comment was about “it makes me ill on so many different levels”. We’re wondering what was meant by that. I actually laughed at your comments about the shoes.
I’m sorry to anyone I misunderstood. I’m her gram and a LOT protective. I’m just so proud of her.
Hey Nini… for myself, I can say you have every reason to be proud of Morgan. Like I said, pretty amazing. I wish I could text at half her speed. Hope she has a great time in Manhattan… I’m still thinking of the Manolos
$25k for speed typing on a cell phone? I can’t imagine the point…it’s an amazing skill of dexterity. But to me, this equates to me having almost unequaled knowledge in Pokemon (which I’m 23 and an ardent fan…yes, I’ve also graduated college, so shut up!). Nobody surely thinks my knowledge is worth $25k.
Sean - I’m sure I’ve seen bigger prizes for less… Usefulness of Pokemon vs texting? Texting would get my vote for being the most useful every time. And the 249 other people who entered the competition thought it was a prize worth going after… Including the 23 year-old engineer who came second and wished he’d won …
But she’s probably a Pokemon wiz too.
ok pokemon wiz??? morgan is one of the most popular girls at school. before the texting thing. shes deff. not a nerd. like her gram said, shes involoved in like everything. shes a great athlete.
