Jacqueline - I hear ya! I am going to be in between Christmas and New Year. Everyone with kids somehow has to have the time off. Fortunately for me I quite like being in during that time... it's quiet - because evetyone's away. I go in late and leave early. I use my vacation time for better things... and I have the first week of january off. But I don't understand why it's assumed that everyone with kids automatically get s the time off, while we, without kids have to either justify or fight for the time off. Sucks. And it's time it changed.

This is utterly funny. It was actually published in the papers here a couple of weeks ago. Probably because the whole befucked holiday season is upon us.

I work at a 7 x 24 x 365/year service support center. Guess who ALWAYS gets out of working Christmas and New Year's? Yep. The breeders. There are 2 of us (out of a staff of 20) who don't have children. And every year, it's the same bullshit... "I can't work the holiday because of my kids"... Well, fuck!! I get to work(be punished) because YOU have a bunch of fuck trophies at home! How fair is that????

Blah.

Thanks for listening to me rant!

I can't even trust myself to get started on this topic. I love Dilbert. Like someone said, it's so true to life. Come to think of it that's wrong. It IS life.

Too true! I have one guy who always wants to dash out for an hour here or an afternoon there to pick up his kids, take them somewhere, someone barfed, blah, blah, blah. Of course he wants to do it on the clock too! Yeah right! That sounds fair for everyone, doesn't it???

Dilbert is great because it's true. I mean, God forbid I should have to take my dog to the vet for an emergency, but if someone has to miss half a day for their kid's Field Day? Not a problem!

I saw that, too and enjoyed it. Of course, it's a little sad because there is a lot of truth in it, at least in some workplaces.

LMAO, so true!

At least my boss is very fair. When my dog got sick and I had to take him to the vet 3 times a week for about a month, he was very nice in letting me make up the time during lunch and staying late so that I didn't have to use all my vacation time. He offers me the same flexibility to take care of my dog as he offers to my coworker with kids.

Ha!

This is, essentially, what is happening to my coworker. His wife is pregnant. He was just whining this morning about how he's "burning through all of his out of office time." Wah. Cry me a fucking river. And he's not even the one who is pregnant. He's just 'being there' for his pregnant wife. Lovely. I suppose this is part of the "We're pregnant." statement?
