Purple Women And Friends Say Adieu

7 04 2008

Purple Women And Friends has closed its doors for the last time. I was sad to read this. The online space will be all the poorer for it, but I can completely understand Teri’s reasons… the sheer effort to keep the high quality she had and to make it a place where childfree people could converse is considerable. And, when you’re working full time, it’s a jolly sight harder. I should know.

Thanks for all your effort and contributions to the childfree universe Teri – and best wishes in your future endeavours!

Her blog was very gentle and balanced. I appreciated that very much. I also have her to thank for finding your blog, BritGirl. I’ve never visited a blog on a regular basis as I do yours. :)

Ms. Purple Woman herself will be sorely missed but her contributions are will be around forever.

Good luck, Teri!

I’m sad to hear this. I feel like every childfree blog out there has something to add to our “community”. Unfortunately, I was not always able to keep up to date with hers as much as I would have liked to because it’s one of the many pages that are blocked at work (fortunately, your’s isn’t) and sometimes I don’t get around to reading it at home. However, I wish her well with everything.

I too am sorry to hear about the Purple Women blog closing down. Teri created a wonderful space full of dignity and respect. The many thoughtful posts on her blog open dialogues to help us see the commonality among people rather than the differences. We will miss that voice and I wish her all the best.

I too am very sad to hear this. I really enjoyed reading the Purple Women blog posts. It was one of the first sites I came across when I started to realise there was a community that described the way I was feeling (about not wanting/having children).
I will miss it very much :(
All the best for the future Teri!

Hey Gals, thanks for the fond farewell. I’ll be stopping by here from time to time, and I am still a blogger! I’ve decided to keep up my personal blog, just for the fun of it.

[Free Advise: Try not to blog from work, that's a great way to get fired!!!]

You absolutely will not believe this, but the same week I step down as the PW blogger, BlogHer invites me to be on a panel of childfree women bloggers at their conference in San Francisco July 18-20! I said “yes” and they are covering my registration. Of course it helps a lot that I am just across the Bay.

Hope to meet some of my fellow Purple Women there. I may need some support from the audience when I am on the panel.

Cheers All,
Teri

Hey Teri! Look forward to it. Hope to see you around.
Not blogging from work is very good advice for all bloggers, unless their company policy permits it. Right from the time I started blogging I decided I would not blog from or during work…I never have and never will ;)

Not just gals teri… some guys read it too..

I never blog about any place i worked, only in the glowing terms. i never do anything at work. my work life is seperate from my home life, a lot of my blog life isnt my home life.

Only in emails do i find a comfortable mix. i have more friends online than in real life, but even then only a very few know most of my personal stuff. people i trust and respect. and i KNOW they will not cause bother to me.
